Global Warming As Hysteria?

Bret Stephens' latest piece on global warming in the Wall Street Journal is worth reading.

The Wall Street Journal is accurate about global warming as it's accurate about any other subject it explores.

Kinda, sorta. While the global warming obsession maybe began as the hysterical fanaticism of a small core of true believers, it's branched out into a fad with all sorts of panderers and hangers-on, including W and Benedict.

The cyclical upswing in petroleum prices has fueled an attraction to the global warming stupidity. On a relative basis, petroleum alternatives look better when petroleum prices rise. The only problem is that current petroleum prices are unsustainable, and laws enacted in the current environment will look really dumb when the gasoline-price whining is over.

Speaking of whining, I loved watching the outrage directed at poor Phil Graham, who made the mistake of making a nuanced and intelligent assessment of economic conditions during Presidential pandering season. NYT columnist David Brooks faulted Graham for his lack of emotional intelligence.
